Metrogyl
(Also known under the names Metronidazole, Flagyl and Trichozole)
is used to treat following types of infections:

Certain types of bacterial infections.
- Protozoal infections.
- Pseudomembranous colitis.
- Dental infections, including acute gingivitis.
- Intra-abdominal infections.
- Aspiration pneumonia.
- Lung abscess.
- Bacterial vaginosis.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease.
- Amoebiasis.
- Eradications of helicobacter pylori bacteria, which is responsible
for causing peptic ulcer disease.
- Prevention of infections during and following surgery.
Metronidazole is thought to act by interfering with DNA synthesis
in bacteria.

Common side effects of Metrogyl:
- Nausea.
- Diarrhoea.
- Metallic taste.
- Inflammation and clotting of veins if given intravenously.
Uncommon
side effects of Metrogyl:
- Allergic reactions including rash, itch, flushing and fever.
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Vomiting.
- Inflammation of the tongue.
- Sores around and in the mouth.
- Dark coloured urine.
- Loss of sensation.
